Our water treatment system team was lucky enough to work with a pair of first-time homebuyers in South St. Cloud recently! Amanda Conyers and Katie Middendorf needed a water system installed in their new home as none existed at the time. They turned to Finken for help, as they were looking for a company with high efficiency equipment at a fair price.Finken’s Sales Manager Mark Roiland gave his insight for this article, along with Amanda and Katie.Amanda and Katie did a lot of research before choosing a water treatment system company for their McKinley & Railroad Parks neighborhood home.“We’ve always focused our spending on local businesses . . . [and] we know the longevity of our plumbing and water-using machines is extended [with better water],” Amanda said.“Amanda contacted Finken back in April asking for an in-home water analysis,” Mark stated. “I went to their home on April 25, and by the end of May we had everything they wanted installed and operating.”Generally, St. Cloud city water has a hardness level of 9 gpg (grains per gallon) which is classified as hard water. The scale for hard water is: Soft Water | 0.0-3.5 gpg Moderate Water | 3.5-7.0 gpg Hard Water | 7.0-10.5 gpg Very Hard Water | >10.5 gpgAmanda and Katie wanted to address the hardness level in their water. Chlorine is also a concern of theirs, as it can affect the quality of your skin and hair, as well as your home’s indoor air. “Mark was fantastic . . . he came to our house two extra times to deliver information to us before we finalized our decisions,” she noted. “He was very patient and helpful through the whole process . . . [Finken Water] gave us the peace of mind that we are absorbing and drinking the cleanest water we possibly can be.”ChlorineBecause of Amanda and Katie’s concern over chlorine, here are some additional details about the chemical.Chlorine is used to kill bacteria and harmful pathogens in city drinking water supplies. As a chemical disinfectant, chlorine has played an important role in reducing infections from pathogens like cholera and salmonella. While chlorine may be relatively harmless in low doses, when it interacts with organic matter, chlorination by-products can be created which may increase the risk of cancer.Finken’s water filtration system removes chlorine and its byproducts.Equipment“[Finken] was willing to dig deep into our questions about ammonia, chlorine, fluoride and other common contaminants which end up in city water supplies,” Amanda said. “They provided us with an extra filter system which removes those contaminants from our whole home’s water supply! That was so important to us.”Hellenbrand ProMate 6 Carbon Filter SystemThe ProMate 6 Carbon Filter is a whole home filtration system designed to remove bad tastes, odors and dissolved organic chemicals from your home’s water. The system saves up to 20 gallons of water per generation cycle, and is so energy efficient it uses less than $2 worth of electricity per year in an average home.Hellenbrand ProMate EcoMax Water Softening SystemThe ProMate EcoMax uses 50% less salt and water than most other water softening systems. It saves 15-20 gallons of water per generation cycle, and can save you up to 70% on your soap and water usage from your original hard water. Soft water extends the life of your water-using appliances, makes clothing whiter, brighter and less scratchy and keeps water fixtures cleaner and stain-free. You’ll also notice softer skin and more manageable hair!WaterCare UltroWater® 35 Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water SystemThe WaterCare UltroWater® 35 reduces contaminants in your water like lead, arsenic, copper, cyst, fluoride, chromium, nitrates and more through the use of reverse osmosis.TeamTeam members for the water treatment system installation included: Mark, Water Treatment Manager Chris Blaskowski and Installer Adam Virnig.“Chris took a special interest in this project because Amanda and Katie cared so passionately about total water management,” Mark said. “Adam did an awesome job on the design and install of the water treatment system to maximize convenience and accessibility of the system for the client.”ChallengesDuring the planning stages, it was discovered that some additional plumbing would be needed unrelated to the systems Finken was installing. Adam was able to provide this plumbing service concurrently with the installation of our systems, which saved the homeowners money.“Amanda and Katie were very interested in low-maintenance products, so we worked hard to come up with the best equipment and filters possible. The solution we have here won’t require maintenance for years, saving them additional money over time,” Mark noted.
